Working With Authors
Fat Dog Books is a traditional, royalties-paying publisher. Authors are not charged any fees for editing, design or marketing services. All our titles are softcover, print on demand.
While we strive to communicate in a timely manner on all inquiries, our limited staff resources prevent us from responding to requests about your project’s status. If we wish to review your entire manuscript, you will be notified by email within three to six months of your initial query, and sometimes sooner. If we request follow up materials, you will be instructed on how to send those materials to us.
If we elect to review your full manuscript, we will request that you also submit your marketing ideas at the same time, no longer than one page. It’s important we understand how you plan to promote your work and what kinds of opportunities you can leverage. The reality is, in today’s publishing environment a very small percentage of authors enjoy the marketing prowess that a major publisher can offer. While Fat Dog Books will do everything possible to market your book, most independent publishers must also rely upon the author to vigorously promote their work. In many cases, authors have just as much influence as publishers to impact sales, acting as the primary and most passionate voice of their book.
